Abstract. The modern information society, involved in the process of digitalization of all spheres of activity, faces not only positive expressions of the digital good, but also, unfortunately, negative ones. One of these expressions is a decrease in the spelling sharpness of native speakers. If we compare the discipline «Culture of speech and business communication» with the previously existing course «The Russian language and culture of speech», then it clearly shows a practical orientation. As it is known, language culture includes the culture of speech, reading, working with text, and information culture. We believe that all these components can be considered within the framework of a terminological culture if we are considering a specific professional field. Spelling skills include knowledge of a code and a sign system that guarantees the ability to capture speech information with the help of graphic elements, recognize it and use it in everyday life. Spelling competence is readiness to analyze and recognize graphic symbols of any new information on the basis of existing knowledge.
Keywords: language, literacy, spelling.
